Ready to Sew Justine Skirt

Amy, a gal from a knitting group, was wearing this skirt one night. She told me this was a free pattern. So here I am!

I bought this fabric from Joann Fabrics. I thought I would try it out on inexpensive fabric before going all out. I don’t know the right word to describe this fabric pattern that’s emphasized on one end. To get the effect I want, instead of folding on the selvage, I got 2 yards and folded the other way. Hopefully you get an idea of what I’m talking about from the picture above.

This pattern was so simple. The new thing for me in this pattern was making the buttonholes. I ordered the buttonhole presser foot from Amazon not realizing there was already one came with my machine. It took a few tries to get the buttonholes right. Then I hand sewn the buttons on the other side.

I am still having a hard time trying to figure out a less messy way to sew the gathering. Though it turned out OK, it drove me mad trying to stitch between 3/8″ and 5/8″.

I saw so many other version of this dress on Instagram. I’m ready to make more!
